Tribute to Tolkien

by Sue McCarty

As you can see, the thread work/quilting on this piece is ABSOLUTELY amazing!!!  This was done on a long arm, but I don’t know what kind…?!  ALL of the gold you see is THREAD!!!  And in the close-up, you can see the blue thread work.  It’s metallic thread too.  Do you see Gollum?  Enjoy.  Be inspired!?  GO sew!!!

Piecefully, Pam

We visited the National Quilt Museum in Paducah on Tuesday and saw this quilt. It is absolutely amazing! My son and I are great Tolkien fans, and even though he isn’t really interested in quilts, he was so glad he went with his grandmother and me to the museum, since he was able to see this magnificent quilt. We bought posters of the quilt in the gift shop (pictures are not allowed in the museum), and he will take his to his college apt. next month. I was amazed by the workmanship and attention to the details of the story of Lord of the Rings.

I saw this quilt at Paducah in April and talked to Sue. Pictures do not do it justice. It is amazing.
