Spring Revival

by Deborah Kemball

Debs has generously offered to share these photos of her award winning quilt, Spring Revival.  I thought it would make a nice Mother’s Day post.  : )

Most recently, this quilt won first place at the IQA Show in Chicago.  It is 33 x 53 inches and is made from 100% silk fabrics.  It has been hand quilted and there are the tiniest little seed beads at the end of each blossoms stamen.

And, in Debs own words…“I do think the close ups give a real feeling of its vibrancy.  What was great was I found that by using the reflectivity of the dupion silk one could achieve a real 3 D effect which I loved and happened completely by accident at first.  I told everyone in Chicago don’t be frightened of using silk – it was a doddle to applique – really.  I just used the lightest weight iron on interfacing to stabilise it first which meant it didn’t fray and was still very easy to work with… I ironed the entire quilt afterwards with a hot iron which meant that I felted the wool batting inside so it hangs very straight.”

Thank you Debs for your kindness and willingness to share!!!  : )  Now…onto the photos!!!  Enjoy, and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to ALL!!!

Piecefully, Pam
